MATH
Our second math unit is coming to an end. Students have been working on the following during this unit:
Our personal narrative unit has come to a close and students have published their pieces! Having worked through the writing process, students have now filled their writing toolbox with strategies for planning, drafting, revising, and editing. Within the writing process, students also practiced using resources such as mentor texts, checklists, and peer feedback to aid them in creating a true, small moment story that is sure to please readers! Feel free to have your student log onto his or her Google account and read aloud their piece at home! In class, these stories have been printed and included in students' writing portfolio which will grow throughout the year.
READING
We have transitioned from practicing writing about reading and focusing on elements of realistic fiction and begun our realistic fiction book clubs. Some of the writing about reading that students will be developing and applying during book clubs include:
Students have begun collecting and analyzing weather maps, forming questions, and collecting observations and data. Reading temperature on a thermometer has been one of our initial lessons. We will progress towards cloud identification and the water cycle in the coming weeks! During this unit, students will also apply the engineering processes while creating a weather machine!
MINDFULNESS
In order to practice mindfulness within our classroom, we have begun participating in activities such as calm breathing, which sharpen our ability to focus and self-regulate from the website mindyeti.com.
