We had the honor of welcoming Dr. Carol Pilarski into our classroom for a read aloud during Read Across America Day. Dr. Pilarski read an inspirational story, Mighty Jackie, the Strike-Out Queen by Marissa Moss. The students enjoyed this inspirational story about the girl who struck out legendary Babe Ruth.
We are wrapping up our electricity and magnetism unit in Science. Students have learned about the different forms of energy, how to make an electromagnet, and much more! Students have really enjoyed the hands-on experiments and explorations to discover the relationship between electricity and magnetism. Looking ahead, we will begin learning about the Original 13 Colonies in Social Studies
In math, we have moved on from Coordinate Grids to Order of Operations and Algebraic Thinking! Students are excited to be working with algebraic expressions and using the PEMDAS acronym to solve numerical expressions!
Our Research-Based Argument Essays have been published! Students will enjoy their Author Celebration today where families, faculty, and staff have been invited to come in and read their arguments. Our class has researched and written about topics such as banning plastic bags in Massachusetts to better the environment, preventing the smoking of cigarettes, and incorporating a nap/rest time into the school day. Our reading workshop has taken us into the world of poetry for the next couple of weeks! Our class is enjoying rhyming patterns, perspective, and figurative language within an array of poems read aloud in class. Looking ahead, our next writing unit will coincide with this and we will begin writing poetry as well as reading it!
