Classroom Management
Positive reinforcement is the over arching guide for classroom management within our classroom. In order to help students monitor their own behaviors, and receive periodic reinforcement for following expected behaviors, Class Dojo will be utilized. This is an interactive, digital classroom management website and mobile app that allows students to be recognized (by gaining points) for behaviors such as positive work ethic, kindness, and perseverance that they exhibit on a daily basis. Additionally, students will lose points through Class Dojo as a result of missing homework, off-task behaviors, exhibiting "unexpected" behavior, etc. It provides students, teachers, and parents with collected data to reflect upon and create goals for positive change and improvement. At the beginning of the school year, each student will be given an access code to create a student/parent account.
At the beginning of the school year, we will create a list of Fifth Grade Expectations as a class. After deciding on the most important expectations, the students and I will discuss appropriate consequences if an expectation is not met. This way, students are involved in the creation of our class community's expectations and create their own guidelines and goals for behavior and productivity. We will refer to these expectations and consequences throughout the year.
