Our Kate DiCamillo Author Study was launched this week! Students have enjoyed listening to our class read aloud, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. Now, students are reading their own Kate DiCamillo books in new book clubs. Titles we are reading include: The Tale of Despereaux, The Magician's Elephant, Tiger Rising, and Because of Winn Dixie. Below you will find some resources to compliment our Author Study.. Because of Winn Dixie Interactive Map Video Interview with Kate DiCamillo Kate DiCamillo's Website EdwardTulane.com The Research-Based Argument Essays are published and complete! Students worked SO hard on this unit: choosing a claim supported by strong evidence, finding articles and research to align with arguments, organizing information, and citing sources! A lot went into this unit and it was a success. We are now onto the wonderful world of Fantasy Fiction writing! This pairs nicely with our current reading work (also fantasy fiction). Students have been generating ideas for their stories using multiple strategies such as taking a personal narrative and adding on a "What if .." fantasy spin. While we begin drafting we will also pull ideas on form and character development from Kate DiCamillo's books. In Math we are in the middle of Unit 11: Measurements and Data: Conversions and Line Plots. The class has been working on ordering data and planning out representations of the data on line plots. We will be moving on to measurements and conversions starting Friday. After learning about the 13 colonies, important leaders, and some of the events leading up to the revolution such as the French and Indian War, we will be visiting the Concord Museum as members of different families from history. Students are taking on the roles of colonists from the Emerson, Buttrick, Minot, Hosmer, Brown, and Barrett families and will enjoy an interactive field trip that will revisit events that led up to the American Revolution. Looking for ways to celebrate Patriots' Day on April 19th? See link for more information on local activities! We have lots to look forward to this Spring, please take a moment to look at the announcements tab for important dates and a copy of our Spring calendar. Thank you! Sincerely, |
Ms. Farley
